2013 Scholarship Winners



Texas Young Farmer Scholarship winners for 2013.  Each student listed below will receive a
$1,000.00 scholarship at the FFA Convention in Dallas this summer. 

 
Macey Mannen of Fairfield
Macey Mannen, the daughter of Brian and Carman Mannen of Fairfield, will be graduating 4th in her class of 117.  Macey is planning on attending Texas A &M University majoring in Human Resource Development with a minor in Communications.  She has held the officeof President in the Fairfield FFA Chapter and also served as a District and Area Officer.  She had the honor of being a voting delegate for Texas at the National FFA Convention.  She has participated in many FFA activities such as Job Interview, Quiz, Public Relations, Farm Business Management and several others.  She has also been involved with the Fairfield Young Farmer activities cooking hamburgers at football games where her dad has been given the nickname of “Fry Daddy” since he is always cooking French Fries.  She also aides the local chapter with their community service activities.  Macey has received her Lone Star Farmer Degree and her SAEP consist of showing market lambs and she has exhibited the Grand Champion twice. 

 

Mattie Leighton Chachere of Dayton
Mattie Leighton Chachere, the daughter of Matthew and Aliciaof Dayton, will be graduating 17th in her class of 281.  Mattie is planning on attending Texas A &M University and majoring in Agricultural Communications and wants to purse a career in public realations.  She has been active in her local chapter serving as Chapter President plus other offices and also the Area IX Reporter. Her FFA activities include Chapter Conducting, Floriculture, Talent contest, FFA Creed and public speaking and she also has earned her Lone Star Farmer Degree.  Her Young Farmer activities include selling raffle tickets for the Dayton Young Farmer Chapter plus assisting them with the FFA livestock show.  Matties SAEP has consisted of commercial heifers and market steers.    

 

Chase David Long of Chico
Chase David Long, the son of Keith and Paula Long of Chico, will be graduating 4th in his class of 47 and attending Texas A& M University majoring in Veterinary Medicine.  Chase has held several offices in his local FFA Chapter and has received his Lone Star Farmer Degree.  His FFA participation has been in FFA Quiz and Chapter Conducting.  His SAEP consistof market goats.  He has won a 3rd Place in Ft. Worth and Austin and a 4th Place in Houston and the Grand Champion in Wise County.  Chase has been active in the Chico Young Farmer fund raising and Community Service activities.  Chase stated, “The Young Farmers  are always there when advice or help is needed.”

 

David Henry Straley of Lampasas
David Henry Straley, son of Robert and Alicia Straley of Lampasas, will be graduating 13th in a class of 215 and attendingTexas A & M University majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  David is totally involved in agricultural mechanics and for that reason he was selected to receive the Billy Harrell Scholarship.  This is a special plaque given to the outstanding agriculture mechanic winner in honor of Billy Harrell as he was very instrumental in the FFA AG Mechanic program in our schools.  David has exhibited agriculture mechanic projects in Houston, San Antonio and San Angelo plus his local show.  His projects has been selected as the Grand Champion twice and two times he has been honored with the Reserve Champion at these shows.  His FFA participation has been in the FFA Skills contest plus the Agriculture Mechanics.  He has been involved in the Lampasas County Young Farmer Community Service activities as well as their fund raising. 

 

Baukje Talsma of Mt. Vernon
Baukje Talsma, the daughter of Hendrik and Jantsje Talama of Mt. Vernon, will be graduating first in her class of 98 and attending Tarleton State University to begin her pathway to become a pharmaceutical veterinarian.  Baukje has served her chapter in many offices to include Chapter Vice President and also as a District and Area VI officer.  Her other FFA activities include Public Relations, Horse Judging, Job Interview and Dairy Judging.  The SAEP has been involved around her raising Holstein Dairy Heifers.  Her Young Farmer activities have included helping with the Mt. Vernon-Saltillo Hay Show and with other fund raising and community Service activities.
